More Albertans are getting electric vehicles, but are not aware they could qualify for an Alberta Electric Vehicle (EV) Rebate… earning as much as $5,000 per electric vehicle!

Canada is pushing forward with environmental policy changes and electric vehicles stand to benefit from one of these policies. This blog post will help you understand your Alberta EV rebate options. Similarly, we’ll compare your options to other provinces, and your eco-friendly vehicle choices at West Edmonton Mall Toyota. Check out our guide to Toyota Electric vehicles for more information!

Canada’s Federal iZEV Program

The federal government runs an electric vehicle (EV) incentive program called iZEV, standing for Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles. Available Canada-wide, this program offers incentives to individuals wanting to purchase eligible electric or low-emission vehicles.

The iZEV program can offer up to a maximum of $5,000 per qualifying vehicle, with some terms and conditions that apply. (One of these is that individual Canadians are only eligible for one incentive per calendar year!)

How Do I Qualify for This Alberta EV Rebate?

To qualify for the iZEV discount, purchase a brand-new, qualifying zero-emission vehicle from a participating dealership.

What is a zero-emission vehicle (ZEV)?

Any vehicle with the potential to produce zero tailpipe emissions, such as:

An example of each of these zero-emission vehicles would be:

A lineup of Toyota electric and hybrid vehicles under a blue sky.

Want to know which vehicles qualify for this incentive? Transport Canada provides a current list here.

How Does The Alberta EV Rebate Work?

Once your eligibility has been confirmed, an enrolled dealership can apply your incentive to your new electric vehicle at the point of sale.

Step One: Complete the Consumer Consent Form

This is part of the eligibility verification process.

Step Two: Complete the Incentive Received Form

Complete this form once your eligibility has been confirmed. Your incentive will then directly appear on the bill of sale or lease agreement.

Step Three: The Dealership Will Submit the Documentation

Our team at West Edmonton Mall Toyota will submit all documentation required to be reimbursed.

Here are a few important things to remember when claiming this EV rebate:

Canada’s Federal iMHZEV Program

The Canadian government also runs an incentive program for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV). This is to encourage Canadian businesses to purchase larger electric vehicles!

Businesses can receive up to 10 incentives per calendar year, with benefits ranging from $10,000 to $200,000 per vehicle.

If you are a Canadian business owner looking to benefit, you can learn more from Transport Canada here

The Alberta EV Rebate

While many provinces in Canada offer provincial EV rebates, Alberta is not one of them. So what is available to you?

The Federal iZEV program can greatly assist in purchasing vehicles with higher up-front costs. Keep reading to see what else is available to Albertan drivers.

Utility Provider Incentives

FortisAlberta, an Albertan electricity service provider, has joined forces with Optiwatt for the EV Smart Charging Pilot program. Therefore FortisAlberta customers can sign up for this pilot program through Optiwatt. It’s a free app that uses your utility plan and electricity rates to determine the cheapest possible times to charge.

What can you gain?

Not only can you save money by using Optiwatt’s algorithm, but they are also offering $150 in rewards for joining the pilot program.

One of the most important things you can do to make sure your vehicle goes the distance is to keep up with your recommended Toyota maintenance schedule.

Drive Smart in Alberta Your Complete Toyota Maintenance Guide 6 800x533 1

Making sure your Toyota gets the regular care it needs (especially in a place like Alberta where extreme weather conditions are common) will be the biggest factor that keeps your car reliable and running for years to come.

Put it this way: Taking care of your own body requires healthy eating, consistent exercise and regular doctor check-ups. Your Toyota needs that same love and care through regular maintenance, Toyota-approved parts and consistent check-ups from the experts.

Drive Smart in Alberta Your Complete Toyota Maintenance Guide 9 800x533 1

This post will explain everything you need to know about how to maintain regular service intervals with your Toyota and why it is so essential to the health of your vehicle.

We even share a story of one Toyota customer who says regular maintenance is the reason his Toyota made it to the 1,000,000 km mark!

Toyota Maintenance – Recommended Schedule

Toyota University Trained Technicians recommend servicing your vehicle every 6 months or 8,000 km, whichever comes first.

During an Alberta winter, debris like road salt and sand can build up on the exterior and underbody of your vehicle and begin to decay the body and various parts.

Sticking to your maintenance schedule allows our experts to properly clean and care for your vehicle to help reduce premature wear and ensure optimal performance.

Drive Smart in Alberta Your Complete Toyota Maintenance Guide 8 800x533 1

Depending on the mileage of your vehicle and service interval, maintenance will either include a Toyota Service #1, #2 or # 3.  Service #1 includes a visual inspection of a range of items and making any repairs needed. Service #2 and #3 will have your technicians examining additional components and replacing things like fluids and filters.

Typical recommended maintenance for a Toyota includes:

Oil Changes: Regular oil changes (usually every 5,000 to 10,000 kilometres, depending on the oil type and driving conditions) are vital to keep your engine lubricated and functioning optimally.

Fluid Checks: This includes checking and potentially replacing coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid. Proper fluid levels and quality are crucial for various systems to work correctly and prevent overheating or malfunction.

Tire Rotation and Alignment: Front tires often wear faster than rear tires, which makes tire rotation an important part of regular tire care. Regular alignments give you a far smoother ride, help your tires perform properly and last longer and ultimately keep your vehicle from pulling in one direction. Misaligned wheels can cause big suspension issues and make your vehicle guzzle gas so this maintenance check is important for both your vehicle and your wallet.

Brake Inspection: Checking brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid is crucial for safety. Worn-out brakes can compromise your ability to stop effectively and nothing is more important than being able to rely on your brakes during an Alberta winter.

Air Filter Replacement: The engine and cabin air filters need periodic replacement to maintain air quality and engine performance. We recommend inspecting your air filter every six months or 8,000 kilometres, whichever comes first, but replacement will depend on its condition. If you find you do most of your driving in downtown Edmonton or on dusty gravel roads, you might want to change your air filter more often.

Battery Check: Inspecting the battery and its connections can prevent unexpected breakdowns due to a weak or faulty battery. Typically, your Toyota will need a new battery after three to four years depending on the model.

Spark Plug Replacement: Changing spark plugs at recommended intervals improves fuel efficiency and ensures smooth engine operation.

Suspension and Steering Inspection: Checking shocks, struts, and steering components ensures a comfortable ride and proper handling.

Timing Belt/Chain Inspection: The timing belt ensures all the important components in your engine are working together seamlessly. The lifespan of timing belts will vary, depending on the age of the part and the distance driven. Eventually, they become worn and cracked. If a timing belt breaks before it is replaced, it can cause your vehicle to break down, and in some situations, even damage the engine.

Why is Regular Maintenance Important?

We would be here all day if we got into the nitty-gritty of why bringing your Toyota in for regular servicing is so important. Not only does it ensure the safety, longevity, performance and efficiency of your vehicle, but regular maintenance can also significantly increase the resale value of your vehicle. In Alberta, regular maintenance is even more crucial because of our extreme weather conditions which can be challenging on your vehicle.

Need even more proof?

Mark Intihar in Ontario surpassed 1 million kilometres on his Toyota Sienna. He said the reason his loyal steed was able to last this long was because of his dad who believed strongly in maintaining the vehicle properly. Especially changing the oil and transmission fluid.

“It sounds good. It starts up every time even in the dead of winter. It’s all about maintenance. Don’t go past the oil changes, if you need an oil change get one.”

You can watch his story below.

How Do I Know When To Bring My Toyota in For Service?

One of the first things you should do after buying your new Toyota is to get familiar with your regular service intervals and recommended maintenance schedule outlined in the owner manual.

You can also stay on top of regular service appointments through the Toyota App which includes Service Connect. It allows you to request monthly reports about current vehicle alerts and more.

“Tough Today, Tough Tomorrow” is the phrase Toyota uses to describe its pickup truck lineup. It makes perfect sense considering there is 70 years’ worth of blood sweat and tears that have gone into building this world-renowned reputation for toughness.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Tundra 11 800x531 1

The 2024 Tundra is the result of that commitment to toughness. Beastly in style and sleek in design, this full-sized truck feels impressive in your hands and even more powerful on the road.

Available in gas and hybrid powertrains and offering three-bed lengths and seven different trims, the Toyota Tundra can be tailored for your exact needs.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Tundra 10 800x534 1

The latest Tundra version has ramped up everything. Both the design and power factor have become more streamlined and there is loads of new tech and features to get prospective buyers excited about.

But how much has the Tundra advanced beyond its 2023 variant? What has changed? This blog post will cover everything this truck does right and why the 2024 Tundra is a great choice for Edmonton drivers.

2024 Tundra Performance

Performance has always been Tundra’s strongest suit, and this year is no exception.

Powered by an Electrified i-FORCE MAX Powertrain, the 2024 Tundra applies a hybrid tech to bolster its performance. When the magical pairing of a Twin-Turbo V6 with an i-FORCE Max hybrid electric motor comes together, you get an impressive 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Tundra 6 800x453 1

The placement of the motor between the transmission is also a clever idea, allowing you to leverage the 10-speed automatic transmission to seamlessly switch between gears without any lag.

We also have to talk about the 2024 Tundra’s towing power offering drivers up to 12,000 pounds of towing capacity. It all starts with the i-FORCE engine that delivers incredible power and torque without compromising fuel economy.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Tundra 7 800x580 1

As Edmonton truck drivers know, size and towing prowess often comes with a significant tick-up in fuel usage. But the 2024 Tundra doesn’t let its power compromise efficiency offering buyers  13.1/10.1 L/100km (City/Hwy).

Capabilities

The 2024 Tundra has everything a driver could ask for when it comes to the road less travelled.

The Tundra comes equipped with a multi-terrain select mode that features a wheelspin-adjusting terrain throttle. A quick spin of the dial can change your driving modes. Available modes include mud, sand, and rock. And when you dive into higher trims, mogul and auto are also available.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Tundra 3 800x533 1

Since managing these systems requires proper power distribution, the 2024 Tundra comes equipped with an electronically locking rear differential for TRD Pro. By distributing equal
power across the four wheels, it gives you more grip when traction is low. But the perks don’t end there.

This beast has taken an unconventional approach to the towing system with a Tundra-7 pin connector. It calculates the strength it needs according to the weight it needs to carry. With 2 Tow/Haul modes, it adjusts its throttle response on the fly. The customization factor is another the 2024 Tundra shines in when capabilities are concerned.

You’ll get an option for a 3-inch suspension lift kit. It will help you level up your driving game when you’re off-road. Available in i-FORCE and i-FORCE MAX 4×4 models, the kit is equipped with Bilstein monotube shock, which works together with upper control arms and TRD-tuned coil springs to add another layer of safety as you veer offroad.

There is also load levelling rear height control air suspension (adjustable) that stabilizes the vehicles and maintains a stable level when offroading when the loading is heavy. It comes in three modes – high, low, and normal, enabling drivers to move on the road freely regardless of the terrain and the road. Another option for suspension that you can get is the AVS – Adaptive variable suspension. By automatically adjusting the damping force according to the terrain, Tundra maintains a high level of comfort when moving.

Exterior

Tundra has always been stylish in terms of looks, and 2024 is no different. However, while the design is sleek, every corner has an amplified vibe to it, which exudes power. It is surprising
considering that the body panels are lightweight and made from high-strength steel to make the vehicle more efficient.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Tundra 12 800x436 1

LED fog lights are integrated for enhanced visibility, and for better aim, the 2024 Tundra features halogen headlights. When it comes to the function of this pick-up truck, it makes hauling heavy things part of its functionality. There are two aspects we have to discuss.

External Storage

The 2024 Tundra features an ultra-durable composite bed made from an SMC (Sheet-Molded Composite) surface, which shields it against dents. Complementing this construction is a strategic design that stylishly makes room for heavy gear.

The utility bed also comes with a 400W inverter for more power. And if you want to keep an eye on your things while you’re driving on a particularly rough terrain, the bed camera will give
you a clear view.

Convenience is also added with clarity with a tailgate release bump switch, making it easy to load up the bed without setting anything down. And if you’re looking for a bigger space, you can opt for CrewMax, which gives you a 6.5-foot bed.

The Toyota Tundra has a payload capacity range of 1,605 to 1,860 pounds depending on the i-FORCE or i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine option, cab configuration and bed length you choose.

Storage

There are two parts of the vehicle’s internal storage module: console storage and rear seat storage.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Tundra 9 800x533 1

Console storage is designed for storing key items like paperwork, tablets, etc., offering spaciousness and including USB media and charger ports inside. If you require even more space, you can look at the rear seat storage. It features flip and fold rear seats, giving access to more space and, thus, more utility.

Interior

As you step inside and look up, you will find a panoramic moonroof that opens at the push of a button. Looking around allows you to experience an interior fitted with American Walnut trim complemented by leather seats featuring unique two-tone themes.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Tundra 5 800x400 1

The seats are also ventilated, allowing you to get warmed up or experience a soft coolness when you need it. The crafted luxurious interior is the perfect compliment to its rugged exterior. All the materials are soft and designed with comfort in mind.

A Closer Look at the Trims

2024 Tundra features seven different trims: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone. Capstone is the highest tier trim coming with all features, ranging from 22-inch chrome alloy wheels and two-tone black interior to American Walnut wood-grain trim.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Tundra 8 800x533 1

Style factor is also important in SR 5, which includes unique features such as 18-inch wheels and a smart key system. Another notable variant is Platinum, which features leather-trimmed seats and a 12.3-inch digital meter.

The sheer amount of trims and available packages epitomize the versatility of the 2024 Tundra.

Evolution from 2023 Tundra

2024 Tundra has taken a “the more, the merrier” approach with new packages.

With Platinum trim, you will get a TRD off-road package, and with the limited edition, there is a nightshade package, the style of which is paramount.

Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Tundra 4 800x534 1

Other changes include the addition of a new three-inch lift kit. The only exception is the TRD Pro, which has its own lift kit.

The 2024 Tundra is a Good Pick for Off and Onroaders

The 2024 Toyota Tundra epitomizes the perfect blend of power, style, and innovation.

With a robust i-FORCE MAX powertrain, diverse trims catering to different needs and thoughtful additions like the TRD off-road and nightshade packages, the 2024 Tundra offers a versatile and compelling driving experience.

It’s not just a truck; it’s a statement of Toyota’s commitment to excellence.

Whether navigating challenging terrains or cruising Edmonton streets, the 2024 Tundra stands out as a formidable and stylish choice in the world of pickup trucks.

Regular maintenance is vital for keeping your Toyota 4Runner in good shape. Following a few essential suggestions, you can guarantee your car will run for years.

Staying on top of maintenance activities is critical. It’ll protect the performance and durability of your Toyota 4Runner. From periodic oil changes and tire rotations to monitoring fluid levels and inspecting the brakes.

Keep the Tires in Top Condition

Urging vehicle owners to focus on tire rotation might not seem like much. Yet, it’s crucial for proper vehicle maintenance. It prolongs tire life and makes driving your SUV more comfortable when you ensure the wear on all four wheels is the same.

Read More: Land Cruiser Vs 4Runner

Additionally, regular tire rotation can improve the drivetrain’s performance. This is especially true on 4Runner models with full-time 4WD. Because the load distribution between the front and rear tires varies, uneven tire wear is typical. Thus, routine tire rotation is crucial to maintain the best possible vehicle performance.

Regular Oil and Fluid Changes

Any vehicle, including your 4Runner, needs regular, precise oil and fluid changes for proper maintenance. However, everyone knows the many detrimental implications of infrequent oil changes. A big issue in the industry is the proportion of people who forget or simply ignore oil changes.

Likewise, people don’t seem to emphasize the significance of changing fluids such as coolant, brake, and power steering. But regular fluid changes are just as significant.

Prevent Rust and Corrosion

Get the underside oil sprayed, replace any exposed or cracked metal, and ensure the SUV is always immaculate. It’s not only for supercars, either. Protecting your 4Runner’s paint and simplifying washing may be achieved using different tools. Check out out Valet & Car Wash options for the best results. These include sealants, waxes, and ceramic coatings.

Stay on Top of Your Timing & Serpentine Belts

Timing and serpentine belts in a car are crucial for the engine’s proper functioning. These belts can degrade over time and shouldn’t be ignored. The serpentine belt supports essential systems. Such include the water pump, power steering, alternator, and AC condenser. A compromised serpentine belt can lead to overheating.

The timing belt regulates the air and fuel flow and controls the engine’s camshaft. Neglecting to change these belts as needed can result in significant engine damage. Regular replacement and maintenance of these belts are vital for optimal car performance.

Stay Safe on the Road

Heavy traffic on a multi-lane highway surrounded by trees

Safe driving is vital for everyone’s safety on the road. Following traffic rules, avoiding distractions, and staying focused can prevent accidents. By driving defensively and being aware of others, you can expect and react to unexpected situations. Prioritizing safe driving creates a better and safer driving environment for all.

Emissions-Free Driving

Reducing CO2 emissions by going fully electric is one way we can help lessen greenhouse gasses, and lessen our impact on the environment.

Save on Fuel Costs

Electricity is cheaper than gas. Savings can be even higher if you recharge during off-peak hours.

Lower Maintenance Costs

Say good-bye to oil changes. With no engine or transmission, BEV’s have fewer mechanical parts. That could help add up to a lower cost of ownership, including service and maintenance costs.

Incentives

The federal government’s iZEV program offers an incentive of up to $5,000 for the purchase of a zero emission vehicle1. Visit Transport Canada to learn more.

How BEV Works

All Electric. All the Time

In place of an internal combustion engine, BEVs are powered by a large battery pack and high-output electric motors. Because it runs on electricity alone, BEVs emit no exhaust from the tailpipe. BEV batteries are recharged to some degree as you drive, largely through regenerative braking. However, BEVs must be plugged into a wall outlet or charging equipment to achieve a full charge in order to deliver the full benefits of their electric-only operation.

Charging

Power Up for Peak Performance

Charging a BEV is simple. Just plug it in. At home, at work, or at any public charging station. Charging times will vary depending on whether you are using Level 1, 2 or 3 charging.

Toyota battery electric vehicles level1 house icon l

Level 1: Standard

Charge your BEV using a standard 120-volt AC wall socket. The slowest way to charge, it can also be the most convenient and requires no special equipment.

Level 2: Faster

A 240-volt AC outlet can cut BEV charging times in half. Install one at home, or charge up at any Level 2 public station.

Level 3: Fastest

Direct Current (DC) Chargers (480V+) are currently the fastest method of charging your vehicle. Canada has more than 5,000 public charging stations – 500 of which are Level 3 fast chargers.

Toyota continues to add some grunt to its off-road lineup with the new 2024 Toyota Sequoia. However, it’s unusual for this segment to sport a V6 hybrid powertrain. Toyota has achieved a rare balancing act with the Sequoia, a combination of style, power, and fuel savings. This is all thanks to its innovative hybrid engine.

Notable Changes From the Previous Year

Drivers opting for the 2024 Toyota Sequoia have an abundance of models to choose from. They include the base model TRD Off-Road, the Limited, the Platinum, and the Capstone. But perhaps the most exciting additions to the lineup are the Limited Nightshade model with its matt black finishes and the TRD Off-Road package for the Platinum trim.

Infotainment and Technology Features

Toyota has a 14” touchscreen (standard in all models except for the baseline TRD), and the Sequoia’s head-up display is intuitive. The addition of trailer reverse guidance with straight path assist is a hat tip to the vacation transport credentials of this powerful SUV.

The Sequoia offers Toyota’s latest infotainment software. It provides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a Wi-Fi Hotspot and a choice of music streaming channels.

Exterior Design

The design highlight of the 2024 Sequoia lineup must be the addition of the Nightshade option. The Sequoia is imposing much when it comes to rugged good looks. But adding the Nightshade trim adds a distinct aura of menace to this capable off-roader. Nightshade owners will enjoy black accents enhancing 20-inch wheels, over fenders, grille, badges and mirror caps.

The TRD Off-Road Package that’s now available on Platinum models transforms Toyota’s Sequoia into an extremely capable 4×4. The Terra paintwork, which is available on TRD PRO models, is also a welcome addition.

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space 5

It’s no surprise that the 2024 Toyota Sequoia boasts generous interior space. There’s now a third row of seats as standard. Increasing second-row capacity makes room for eight people. There are trim choices in abundance, with cloth and leather. Plus, wood and chrome are available to enhance interior styling.

It’ll provide a not overly generous 339.8 litres of cargo space, while sliding the third row of seats forward will provide 1,387.5 litres of room.

Engine and Performance Features

The 2024 Sequoia provides a 3.5-litre V6 iForce MAX hybrid powertrain. It’s twinned with an electric motor and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The resultant is 427 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque, which is more than adequate both on and off-road. The Sequoia delivers an impressive 12.6 L/100 km in the city and an admirable 10.5 L/100 km on the open road.
