On Friday, June 12th, our team had the privilege of joining some of Edmonton’s community supporters at the Quarry Golf Club for the 13th Annual Maier Centre for Autism Charity Golf Tournament.

This event is very close to our hearts. The Jim Jiwani Autism Academy and Children’s Autism Services of Edmonton represent a cause that matters deeply to our entire team, and we’re proud to show up every year!

Children’s Autism Services Golf Tournament 2026

About Children’s Autism Services of Edmonton

Founded in 2004, Children’s Autism Services of Edmonton has grown to become Northern Alberta’s leader in family-centred autism services.

At the heart of their work is the Jim Jiwani Autism Academy, a pioneering school built for Autistic children with emotional regulation needs, named after Prestige Auto Group President Jim Jiwani, who donated over $3 million to help Children’s Autism Services purchase the building and land.

Children’s Autism Services also operates the Maier Centre West and Maier Centre South locations, offering free childhood screenings for children aged 2 to 3, early education programming, multidisciplinary assessments, and community support for educators and families across Northern Alberta.

A Day to Remember

Our West Edmonton Mall Toyota team proudly co-sponsored a hole alongside Lexus South Pointe, with a headline attraction to match: a hole-in-one competition with a chance to win $50,000 toward a new Lexus or Toyota.

To keep the fun going, we set up a candy bar stocked with some familiar favourites, plus grab-and-go bags of Kernels popcorn. It turned out to be a big hit with golfers and staff alike!

The tournament sold out earlier than ever this year, a testament to how strongly the Edmonton community rallies around Children’s Autism Services and the families it serves. We’re grateful to have played a part alongside fellow title co-sponsors Lexus South Pointe, Formations, and Multiwood, as well as major sponsors Avantaguard, Nordic, and Quantum Chemical.

We’re proud to support and sponsor many community events across Edmonton!

Proud to Support the Edmonton Community

As Children’s Autism Services put it: together, we’re creating brighter futures, one child, one family, one swing at a time. That’s something we’re proud to stand behind as part of the Prestige Auto Group family, and we look forward to doing it again next year.

Connected Services

Unlock Your Toyota’s Full Potential with Connected Technology

Toyota Connected Services (TCS) is an advanced suite of in-vehicle and remote-access features designed to elevate your driving experience, enhance safety, and provide unparalleled convenience.

For drivers in Edmonton and throughout Northern Alberta, where extreme weather, long commutes, and vast distances are the norm, these services are not just luxuries—they are essential tools for modern motoring.

Key Benefits for Northern Alberta Drivers

Remote Connectivity: Conquering the Alberta Cold

The bitter cold of an Edmonton winter demands preparation. TCS features like Remote Connect offer critical functionality that directly addresses the challenges of this climate. Use Remote Engine Start/Stop to warm up the engine and cabin on frigid mornings (often below -30°C in Northern Alberta), ensuring comfort and clear visibility before you even step inside. If you accidentally left your vehicle unlocked, Remote Door Lock/Unlock secures it instantly from anywhere, a perfect solution when dealing with heavy winter gear. Plus, Vehicle Status Alerts let you check fuel levels and—most importantly in the cold—confirm door and window status, all from your smartphone.

Enhanced Safety and Emergency Response

Safety is paramount, especially when traveling the isolated highways or backroads of Northern Alberta. TCS provides peace of mind through immediate assistance features. Safety Connect (SOS Emergency Assistance) connects you instantly to a live agent in the event of a collision or medical emergency. The agent can dispatch emergency services (Police, Fire, EMS) directly to your GPS location, even in areas with limited local cell service. If your airbags deploy, Automatic Collision Notification (ACN) automatically alerts the response center, ensuring help is on the way even if you are incapacitated—a vital feature for long drives between cities like Edmonton, Grande Prairie, and Fort McMurray. For added urban protection, Stolen Vehicle Locator (SVL) provides support to law enforcement in locating your vehicle should it ever be stolen in centers like Edmonton.

Connectedservice

Navigation and Destination Assistance

Navigating the changing road conditions and complex layouts of a growing city like Edmonton is simplified with embedded technology. Destination Assist gives you live, human-supported guidance; a live agent can search for points of interest (POIs) and send the route directly to your vehicle’s navigation system, making it easier to find local businesses or alternate routes around construction. Meanwhile, Drive Connect (Cloud Navigation) ensures your navigation is always current by accessing the latest map data, up-to-date traffic information, and POIs stored in the cloud without manual updates.

The main tiers supporting your Northern Alberta drive include Remote Connect for remote access and essential cold-weather pre-warming, Safety Connect for critical emergency support and automatic dispatch to remote areas, Drive Connect for real-time cloud-based navigation, and Service Connect for vehicle health reports and timely winter-readiness maintenance reminders.

If you find yourself searching “common car service questions” on Google or trying to figure out your car service invoice, you’re in the right place. We understand that car maintenance can be confusing and stressful, and often the last thing our customers want to do with their busy schedules. But it’s essential to keep your car running smoothly!

Preventative maintenance can reduce vehicle breakdowns and pricey repairs in the future.

This blog will answer questions like:

A Toyota Service technician checks the vehicle's tires in front of a customer.

Common Car Service Questions: Why Do I Need An Oil Change?

Our Toyota Maintenance Guide recommends regular oil changes every 5,000 to 10,000 KM, depending on oil type and driving conditions. But just what does oil in your vehicle do?

Engine oil is responsible for lubricating moving parts in your vehicle’s engine, reducing damaging friction and preventing the buildup of dirt and sludge. When your oil levels are low or your oil is dirty, you run the risk of damaging your engine. The oil degrades from heat and collects harmful particles that need to be removed! Regular oil changes to remove oil that has broken down will keep your vehicle running smoothly.

A Toyota Service technician checks the dipstick for oil levels during an oil change.

Moreover, if you have a newer vehicle, it may run better on synthetic engine oils! Learn more about conventional vs synthetic oils here. We recommend checking your owner’s manual for more information on oil types and change schedules for your specific Toyota model.

Need an oil change? You can book an appointment with our Service Department here.

Common Car Service Questions: What Is A Cabin Air Filter?

Cabin air filters are designed to clean the air entering your car’s cabin and protect you from exhaust, dust particles, allergens, and other particles in the air. These air filters are typically flat and pleated.

If this filter is dirty, it can no longer effectively clean the air from dust, exhaust or pollen. Luckily, these filters are typically cost-effective and easy to replace.

You should check your owner’s manual to see how often these should be changed, but in general, your filter should be changed at your next service appointment. (We recommend getting a service check-up every six months or 8,000 KM) Get your air filter inspected during your next oil change to see how dirty it is.

Watch how cabin air filters work in this explanation.

Common Car Service Questions: Do I Need Winter Tires In Alberta?

While winter tires are not mandatory by law in Alberta, Alberta Transportation recommends winter tires when driving in severe winter conditions. So what makes winter tires helpful for Albertans?

When tires experience cold weather conditions, the rubber stiffens. Winter tires are designed to withstand temperatures of -30°C and to maintain their elasticity. This means that winter tires provide more traction and grip than other tires at that temperature range!

Your safety is our priority! The majority of car collisions resulting in injury in Alberta occur in December, making cold weather conditions a factor in your safety on the road.

A Toyota Service technician poses next to a sign about Toyota seasonal tires, showcasing the difference between summer and winter tires.

Common Car Service Questions:  Why Do I Need To Replace My Windshield Wipers?

Tires play a part in your safety on the road, and so do your windshield wipers. Have you ever had streaked windows while driving down a busy highway? Or encountered a problem with your wipers not working and struggled to see the road? It can be a scary experience.

It’s recommended to replace your windshield wipers with the change of the seasons or every 6 months. Damaged windshield wipers can reduce visibility on the road, and increase glare and risk in Alberta’s unpredictable summer thunderstorms and winter blizzards.

It’s time to change your windshield wipers if the following applies:

A Toyota Parts expert answers a customers service questions, and discusses new windshield wipers.

If you need new windshield wipers, look no further! West Edmonton Mall Toyota has an extensive parts inventory with competitive pricing and a full line of accessories. Visit our Parts Centre here

Common Car Service Questions: What Fluids Need Regular Refills?

Your vehicle has many fluids that help keep it running smoothly and safely, and much like an oil change, your fluids need regular refills and maintenance.

Proper fluid levels and quality are crucial for various systems to work correctly and prevent overheating or malfunction. We recommend having your vehicle’s fluids checked at your next service appointment. This includes checking and potentially replacing coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid.

For The Fresh-Lovers: Szechuan Lettuce Wraps – think sweet and spicy Szechuan glaze, peanuts, wontons, Korean chilli sauce, and spicy yoghurt.

    The Best Snacks: Popcornwala

Popcornwala serves up gourmet popcorn snacks with a twist of flavours and East Indian spices! You can find them on Level 1 in West Edmonton Mall.

If you’ve attended one of our recent exclusive customer events, you will be familiar with them as they have been one of our most popular partners to serve our guests. This Canadian franchise is “popping” up in Edmonton and Saskatoon, and serving up big flavour!

Their current flavour list is as follows:

    Our Recommendations

For the Classic Fans: Try the Cinema Snacker on for size! A buttery and salty classic.

For the Adventurous: Take on the Pickle Tickle, if you’re a fan of dill.

For the Spice Lovers: Try the Tandoori Flames! A (very) spicy popcorn for those who like to live dangerously.
