Tires are one of the most important components of your vehicle. In addition to supporting your vehicle on the road, tires provide traction, absorb road shock, and help direct your vehicle where you want to go. Without tires, your vehicle is essentially useless.
Why is the tread, balance, and placement of your tires so important? It all comes down to saving money, keeping you safe, and lengthening the life of your vehicle.
This post will explain:
Why regular rotations extend the life of your tires
Maintaining optimum tire pressure keeps your vehicle running
Why good tire tread is important
How to check your tire tread
Why wheel alignments save you money
Why choosing the proper tire brand is important
Have questions about Toyota tires or general tire inquiries? Contact our Tire Experts today by calling 780 486 9014 or request your tires online! Get the best tire advice from your local Tire Pros.
With customers across Edmonton, St. Albert, Stony Plain, and Spruce Grove we feel confident we can help you achieve optimal tire health all-year-round.
Regular Tire Rotations
Front tires typically wear down faster than rear tires, which makes tire rotation an important part of your regular tire care.
You want all four tires to wear out together. That way, you can buy four tires at the same time without having to buy them in pairs, a more cost-effective option.
Wear and tear of your vehicle’s tires is normal. However, sometimes tires wear unevenly. This can be caused by overinflated tires, wheel alignment issues, and more.
Regular tire rotations help you catch these issues early, extending the life of your tires and vehicle! Always check your Toyota vehicle maintenance schedule for your recommended tire rotation schedule.
Maintaining Optimum Tire Pressure
Maintaining optimum tire pressure helps to keep your vehicle running smoothly and safely. Your tires have a specific tire pressure they should always be at. If they are over or under this pressure, your tires will suffer, as will your fuel economy and driving abilities.
Properly inflated tires can:
Stop excessive tread wear
Lengthen the life of your tires
Increase handling, traction, and stopping ability
Improve fuel economy and save you money at the pumps
Pro Tip: Weather temperatures affect your tire pressure. Cold weather can cause your tire air pressure to drop, while warm weather can actually increase tire pressure.
Some Toyota models are equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System that will alert you if you need to stop and check your tires. It’s always a good idea to regularly check your tire pressure, just to be safe.
Why Good Tire Tread Matters
The tread on your tire gradually wears down over time. While this is totally normal, tire tread that has degraded too far can be very dangerous depending on the situation.
For example, a rainy day will often create a build-up of water on the roadways. The grooves (or tread) in your tires push that water away from the surface of your tires.
If your tread is worn down and the grooves aren’t deep enough, water can get trapped underneath your tires and reduce traction on the road altogether.
If you’re traveling at fast speeds and the tires are unable to push the water from beneath the tire, hydroplaning occurs. This means your vehicle loses contact with the road and instead slides on the water, causing total loss of control.
How To Check Tire Tread
A simple way to check your tire tread is to insert a toonie into one of the grooves. If you’re unsure, our Tire Experts can check and record tire tread depth for you! Or, watch this helpful video!
Regular Wheel Alignments Save You Money
A wheel alignment refers to an adjustment of a vehicle’s suspension – the system that actually connects your vehicle to its tires.
Important: It’s not an adjustment of the tires!
A proper alignment adjusts the angles of the tires which allows your vehicle to hit the road properly.
Not only does give you a smoother ride and improve overall handling, but it also lengthens the lifespan of your tires.
Misaligned wheels left for too long can create serious suspension issues resulting in hefty repair fees down the road. Plus, it leads to an increase in gas consumption.
Routine wheel alignments save you money by keeping your tires on the road longer, fueling up less and avoiding costly repairs.
Ever felt your car pulling to one direction? That usually means your wheel alignment is off and needs to be adjusted.
We recommend having your wheel alignment checked once a year. However, if you notice uneven wear on the inside of your tires, make an appointment as soon as possible.
There are dozens of tire brands on the market, each offering differing quality levels and capabilities.
Beyond the tire brand, there are other things to consider:
Where do you live?
What is the weather like in your area?
What do you use your vehicle for?
What’s your budget?
Our Tire Experts are trained to ask the right questions to ensure you get the perfect tire for your vehicle. Living in Alberta means you need a tire that works in almost every condition: hot summer days and icy winter nights.
Our Tire Centre carries all the top brands including BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Yokohama, Firestone, and many more. If you’ve done the research yourself and know what tires your vehicle needs, order them online today!

It’s a great way to get the family together safely and shower the special ladies in your life with the attention they deserve.
If your family lives close together, organize a route outside her house. Select a meet-up spot and have the vehicles line-up at an agreed-upon time.
Hang signs from the window showering her with love. Add a few balloons in the mix and a whole lot of honks and you’re sure to make her smile!
Order in Dinner From Her Favourite Local Spot

Happy Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day may look a little different this year, but the love we feel for the amazing women in our lives has only gotten stronger.
While it may take a few unique ideas and a little bit of effort, you can make this a Mother’s Day one she will never forget.
We want to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day near and far. Enjoy the time with your loved ones and stay healthy and safe.
COVID-19 has changed Canadians day-to-day lives. Many non-essential businesses have closed and many are practicing social distancing to help flatten the curve and stop the spread of Corona virus.
With a global pandemic surging, there has never been a better time to prepare your vehicle for an emergency situation. Ensuring its properly serviced and loaded with essential gear is the first step.
If a health emergency strikes, you want to be prepared. That’s why we put together a list of essential things you can do to make sure your car is ready in case you need to leave at a moment’s notice.
Test Your Lights
Walk around the exterior of your vehicle and check your lights for any cracks. Then flip your hazards, brake and reverse lights to ensure all bulbs are in working order.
Check Your Tires
Check each of your tires for tread level. Watch for any bulges or tears. Finally, check your tire pressure and make sure it is aligned with your owners’ manual.
Test Your Brakes
Take your vehicle out for a quick rip around the block. Listen intently for any odd sounds. How quick are your brakes to respond? Is there any lagging? If there is a noise, is it squeaky or does it sound like scraping? If you detect any noise at all, we recommend bringing your vehicle in immediately.
Pack the Essentials
This is very important in times like these. Most people assume an emergency roadside kit is just for winter scenarios. But during a global health crisis, having a kit of essential items in your vehicle at all times is a great idea, and could end up saving a life.
While we do recommend keeping the basic emergency kit items in your trunk — flashlight, first aid supplies, antifreeze, etc. — there are some new things you can add just in case.
A few examples include a sweater and basic toiletry kit with things like toothpaste, contact lenses, toothbrush, medications, etc. Pack a water bottle and some snacks. It’s also a good idea to have all your medical information, Alberta health card and license together.
Get a Routine Service
If you’ve been avoiding an essential service or haven’t taken your car in for regular maintenance for a while, now is the time. Should an emergency strike, you want to know with confidence your vehicle is safe and ready to-go in a moment’s notice.
The three most essential services we recommend having done are oil changes, tire rotations and replacing your air filter. However, it’s also a good idea to have all your major fluids checked as well:
Antifreeze coolant,
Radiator coolant,
Brake fluid
Windshield washer fluid
Power steering fluid

Albertans are being increasingly diligent about hygiene in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. That goes beyond personal cleanliness and also extends to their vehicles. Edmontonians want to know their vehicle is being handled with the utmost care when they drop it off for service.
At Mayfield Toyota, we take every precaution to ensure your vehicle is clean and germ-free while being serviced. When you wash your vehicle with us, your keys are handled with gloves, and we use a high-grade disinfectant called Toyota Touch, not just soap and water.
Toyota Touch Cleaner
Our Toyota Touch cleaner contains a fast-acting biocidal agent (the same stuff used in products like Lysol and hand sanitizer!) The active ingredient is an organic salt classified as a quaternary ammonium compound which is well known for its antimicrobial activity.
This antibacterial disinfectant is ideal for sanitizing steering wheels and shift knobs. It can also be used as a generic surface disinfectant. It’s a warranty certified by Toyota, so unlike with bleach and other home cleaners, you don’t have to worry it will harm your interior.
We are proud to continue to serve our customers during these unprecedented times. We recognize how important it can be to have a running vehicle during an emergency.
Your health and safety are at the forefront of our decisions and we continue to implement the highest levels of cleanliness while supporting social distancing. Use our Express Service Pick-Up and Book Your Sevice Appointment Online to avoid contact with staff.

What Does an Air Filter Do?
Underneath, you’ll find a large, black ductwork that is responsible for directing air from the grille into the engine. From there, the air enters a large cube and inside that cube you will find the air filter.
Once the air is inside, the air filter works to keep dust, pollen, sand, dirt, and debris out of the air that will eventually continue into the engine. Hey, it’s a hard job, but somebody has to do it.
Why is a Good Air Filter Important?
Dust and debris are terrible for your vehicle. When they start to build up in your engine, they can cause it to misfire, breakdown, or lead to potentially expensive repairs. In extreme cases, a build-up of debris can cause your engine to shut down altogether.
How often should I Change My Air Filter?
Toyota recommends that you inspect your air filter every six months or 8,000 kilometres. However, it also depends on the condition of the air filter. It’s always best to check your Vehicle’s Owner’s Manual or you can search your vehicle’s schedule online.
Factors That Speed Up Wear-And-Tear:
Summer Weather
Heavy Pollen
Gravel Roads
Hot Climates
Heavy Pollution
Dusty Worksites
What if I Don’t Replace My Air Filter?
When an air filter becomes clogged with particles and debris, it begins to reduce the amount of air that gets into the engine. This tells your engine to add more fuel; however, this can create a ton of problems.
The extra gasoline can create deposits on your sparkplugs or simply be pushed out into the atmosphere from your exhaust system. If you’ve ever seen someone blow off dark smoke from their exhaust, a dirty air filter may be to blame.
Reduced airflow can also make your car less powerful and sluggish. Eventually, your check engine light will come on, but at that point, your engine might already have become less efficient and your spark plugs may be compromised.
Good News Is…
Changing an air filter is a simple task for our highly-trained technicians, and replacing one is affordable. Even better? Every time you come in for your Toyota mandated service appointment if necessary our technicians will replace it every time. Taking care of your Toyota will ensure it runs properly for years to come.
Yes, the rumours are true! We’re moving from our historic location on 102 Ave and 170 Street into Canada’s largest and most iconic retail and entertainment destination, West Edmonton Mall (WEM). That will make us the only full-service dealership in a shopping centre anywhere in Canada.

Not just to support our hardworking staff but to accommodate the increase in sales and service volume. So we can better serve our valued guests.
We’ve been partnering with West Edmonton Mall since 2012, including sponsoring the Mayfield Toyota Ice Palace and hosting ongoing on-ice sale events hosted throughout the year. With the mall being just 1.6 km South of the dealership, it soon became clear it was the perfect fit.
“Our planned WEM site is approximately 317,000 total square feet. This state of the art facility will include a 117,000 square foot showroom, and a 200,000 square foot multi-level parking deck with detail centre.

We all know batteries deteriorate over time. Knowing when to change them can be the tricky part. Let our certified technicians test your battery for you.

We have a wide selection of brake pads and our highly knowledgeable parts experts can help you choose which pads are best for you.
