Toyota Safety Sense

Safety TSS 2.0: Toyota's newest advanced active safety package. Toyota safety sense 2.0

INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGIES

In pursuit of a safe driving environment, Toyota takes an integrated approach that brings together distinct areas of driving.

Toyota Safety Sense is a suite of active safety technologies that all work to increase driver capability and control. These technologies can help mitigate collisions, keep drivers in their lanes, and improve nighttime safety as they offer an overall safer experience on the road. Toyota Safety Sense comes in two offerings: Toyota Safety Sense C and Toyota Safety Sense P. Toyota is proud to be the first automaker fully committed to making these advanced safety systems standard on almost every model and trim level sold in Canada.

TOYOTA SAFETY SENSE

PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM

PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM

The Pre-Collision System is all about preventative protection, as it utilizes a camera and laser to detect vehicles ahead. When the possibility of a collision is detected, this system prompts the driver with audio and visual cues. If the driver notices the given alerts and then proceeds to brake, the system is able to provide additional braking force using Brake Assist. In the case that a driver does not respond to the alerts, and if the system determines there is a possibility of a frontal collision, the system can automatically apply the brakes and reduce speed by up to 30 km/hour to help the reduce the severity of the impact, and in some instances, avoid the collision.

LANE DEPARTURE ALERT

LANE DEPARTURE ALERT

The Lane Departure Alert System utilizes a camera to detect the visible white and yellow lane markings in front of the vehicle as well as the vehicle’s position within these lines. If the system detects the vehicle is making an unintentional departure from its lane, it alerts the driver with an audio and visual cue. When notified of this drift, the driver must check the surrounding road situation and cautiously operate the steering wheel to drive back into the intended part of the lane.

AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM

AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM

Automatic High Beams enhance visibility at nighttime without distracting other drivers with especially bright lighting. It utilizes an on-board camera to detect the headlights of oncoming traffic and the taillights of the vehicles in front of you. The system can automatically switch between high and low beams to accommodate the circumstances of the moment.

TSS-P is currently available on:
2017 - 2019 Avalon, 2018 & 2019 C-HR, 2018 & 2019 Camry & Camry Hybrid, 2018 & 2019 Corolla, 2018 & 2019 Highlander & Highlander Hybrid, 2017 - 2019 Prius, 2017 - 2019 Prius Prime, 2018 Prius v, 2017 & 2018 RAV4 & RAV4 Hybrid, 2018 & 2019 Sequoia, 2018 & 2019 Sienna, 2018 & 2019 Tacoma, 2018 & 2019 Tundra.

PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM WITH PEDESTRIAN DETECTION

PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM WITH PEDESTRIAN DETECTION

With this advanced version of the Pre-Collision System, millimetre-wave radar sensors and a camera are used to help detect the vehicle ahead, and the system is also able to help detect pedestrians. If the system detects a possible collision with the vehicle ahead or the possibility of a frontal collision with a pedestrian, it then prompts the driver to take immediate action and brake. When the driver responds to these alerts, the system will provide additional braking force using Brake Assist. If the driver does not react to the alerts, the system is able to apply the brakes and reduce speed to lessen the impact and in some cases avoid the collision.

LANE DEPARTURE ALERT WITH STEERING ASSIST FUNCTION

LANE DEPARTURE ALERT WITH STEERING ASSIST FUNCTION

Complementing the Lane Departure Alert in vehicles equipped with TSS-C, vehicles with TSS-P and Electronic Power Steering also feature a Steering Assist function. This system can detect when the vehicle is drifting out of a visibly marked lane and can temporarily provide gentle corrective steering inputs to help guide the vehicle into its lane.

AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAMS

AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAMS

Automatic High Beams are able to provide drivers with enhanced lighting without limiting the visibility of other drivers on the road. It accomplishes this through the use of an in-vehicle camera that can detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and the taillights of those vehicles ahead. The system detects when other vehicles are within close proximity and will automatically switch between high and low beams to provide adequate lighting.

DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL

DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL

Vehicles equipped with TSS-P also come with innovative Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Comparable to conventional cruise control features, this system can help a vehicle travel at a preset speed and preset vehicle-to-vehicle distance. To detect the preferred speed and distance, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control uses a forward-facing camera with a millimetre-wave radar that monitors the vehicle ahead and offers smooth acceleration and deceleration.
Toyota Safety Sense P comes as standard safety equipment on the following models, including both the 2017 and 2018 model years: Toyota Corolla, Toyota Prius, Toyota Prius Prime, Toyota RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid, Toyota Highlander, and Highlander Hybrid.

TSS 2.0 is currently available on:
2019 Corolla Hatchback and the 2019 RAV4 & RAV4 Hybrid. Coming soon on more 2020 MY models.
TSS 2.0 builds on TSS P and consists of six active safety and driver assistance systems.

PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM

PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM

WITH DAYTIME/LOW-LIGHT VEHICLE AND PEDESTRIAN DETECTION, PLUS DAYTIME BICYCLE DETECTION

Provides collision avoidance or collision mitigation support in speed ranges where frontal collisions are likely to occur. For TSS 2.01, PCS is designed to detect bicycles in daytime situations, as well as vehicles and pedestrians in both daytime and low-light situations -- helping to prevent or mitigate a collision.

LANE DEPARTURE ALERT

LANE DEPARTURE ALERT

WITH STEERING ASSIST AND ROAD EDGE DETECTION

Alerts you if you start to drift out of your lane when travelling on relatively straight roads with clear lane markings, road edges or curbs. The Steering Assist function may also provide small corrective steering inputs.

AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM

AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM

Designed to detect oncoming and preceding vehicles’ lights and depending upon the circumstances, Automatic High Beam (AHB) can switch between high and low beams for you.

LANE TRACE ASSIST

LANE TRACE ASSIST

LTA6 is designed to work with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control5 to keep the vehicle centered in its visibly marked lane and preemptively avoid unintended lane departures. LTA does require the driver's hands to remain on the steering wheel. Some models equipped with TSS 2.01 will not have the LTA feature. Check your Owner's Manual for more details.

FULL-SPEED RANGE DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL

FULL-SPEED RANGE DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL

DRCC can automatically adjust vehicle speed to help maintain a preset following distance between you and the vehicle directly in front of you. Most TSS 2.0 models will feature Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control5, which is designed to allow low-speed following, speed matching, stopping, and acceleration/deceleration to a preceding vehicle. Manual transmission models receive high-speed range DRCC instead of Full-Speed Range DRCC.
