This month marks our fifth year inside West Edmonton Mall, one of the most iconic shopping destinations in North America.
To mark the occasion, we want to look back at where we started, how we got here, and — most importantly — thank the people who made it all possible.
Before there was West Edmonton Mall Toyota, there was Mayfield Toyota. When owner Jim Jiwani first opened the doors in 1998, the dealership sat on the outermost edge of Edmonton in the Mayfield neighbourhood.
Over the next two decades, the city grew, and so did we. Edmonton swelled to over 900,000 people, and we expanded to a 7,500-square-foot showroom and built out a service centre to over 50 bays. We also earned Toyota Platinum Certification, a distinction held by only 3% of Toyota dealerships worldwide.
Mayfield Toyota became an Edmonton staple, and it was because of the incredible team of people inside it. General Manager David Friesen has been part of this team for over 25 years. He put it best at Mayfield Toyota’s 20th anniversary: “They aren’t just co-workers; they are like a fun, dysfunctional family that make it fun to come to work every day.”
And it is the same team, same faces, and same care that welcomed guests into West Edmonton Mall Toyota when we opened in October 2021.
In October 2021, West Edmonton Mall Toyota officially opened its doors, and with it, a dealership experience Edmonton had never seen before.
The new facility brought something entirely new to the table:
Not only did our state-of-the-art facilities improve the customer experience, but so did being inside West Edmonton Mall!
Instead of sitting in a waiting room, our guests get to enjoy one of the world’s great shopping destinations. That kind of convenience is something we are genuinely proud to give them.
None of this happens without you… Not in 1998, not in 2021, and not today.
Every vehicle purchased, every service appointment booked, and every time you chose us is what built West Edmonton Mall Toyota. And to the customers who have been with us since the Mayfield days: we appreciate you, and we are so glad you made the move with us.
