2023 Toyota Highlander Updates For Edmonton
Posted on June 15, 2023
The Toyota Highlander is one of the most popular and well-recognized three-row SUVs in Edmonton thanks to a great reliability score, a plethora of standard features and a generous amount of interior space for passengers and cargo. 2023 brings a host of exciting new upgrades for the Highlander including a new more fuel-efficient engine and some more tech features.
If your growing family needs a new vehicle then the Toyota Highlander should be at the top of your shopping list. Contact our team at West Edmonton Mall Toyota for delivery dates and pricing as well as for answers to any questions you might have about the 2023 Highlander. With competitors like the Mazda CX-9 and Honda Pilot also vying for the covered top three-row SUV spot for Edmonton families, we break down why the Highlander is the best choice overall and which trim level is our favourite.
Updates For The 2023 Highlander
The 2023 Toyota Highlander no longer has the same V6 engine it had for years. Instead, Toyota has replaced it with a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine that makes 265 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. That's slightly less horsepower than the previous generation but a 17 percent increase in torque.
The new 2.4-litre engine feels more powerful than you might expect from a four-cylinder in a vehicle with this much space. But the power is definitely there and we are impressed. Our customers will love how smooth the ride is and how quickly the Highlander accelerates as well. The new engine also gets slightly better fuel economy making it one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in Edmonton for families looking to manage costs at the pumps.
Other updates for the Highlander include a larger infotainment touchscreen. Limited and Platinum grades now come with 12.3-inch screens as standard which is also available in the Highlander XLE and XSE. The previous 4.2-inch driver information display is now a more modern-looking 7-inch gauge cluster. Toyota has also made the wireless charging area easier to get to and the exterior mirrors on both the driver's and passenger's sides now are power folding.
2023 Highlander Specs
We know every family is looking for a vehicle that offers enough space inside and a wide array of standard and available features to suit their specific needs.
The Toyota Highlander is that vehicle with three-row seating that leaves enough space for eight passengers.
You can get the 2023 Highlander in six trims: L, LE, XLE, XSE, Limited and Platinum. The middle trims swap the second-row bench for captain's chairs, meaning you can transport one less person. The new turbocharged 2.4-litre engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Edmonton drivers will have the option of upgrading the front-wheel drive to all-wheel drive (which is available on all trims).
Families wanting to bring their toys to the lake for the weekend will be happy to know that the new Highlander is equipped to tow up to 5,000 pounds and comes with Trailer Sway Control (TSC) making it easier to drive.
We also love the Stop and Start Engine System which turns the engine off when your Highlander comes to a stop and will immediately fire it back up when your foot lifts from the brakes.

Which is the Best Highlander Trim?
While we think all of the 2023 Highlander trims have something to offer every type of buyer, we love the Limited trim because of all the luxury features it adds. In addition to including an 11-speaker JBL audio system and digital instrument panel, you get some serious creature comforts like leather upholstered seats, ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel — a must-have in the middle of an Edmonton winter.
We also love the addition of the front and rear parking sensors which let you know if there are things in front or behind you when you go to park. Every parent that has had a near run-in with a bike left laying on the driveway or toys scattered about the culdesac call this feature a lifesaver.
